As part of its collaboration with the Luberon Regional Natural Park (PNRL), G\u00e9osel has made a plot of its land available to participate in a study carried out in 2024 on Mediterranean dry grasslands, a relict habitat which is becoming rare in the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This study, based on 30 observation plots and a cartographic comparison between 1948 and 2024, aims to assess the state of conservation of these lawns and to understand the dynamics of regression and fragmentation of open environments, the main factors of degradation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The first results show a floristic richness, with more than 400 plant species recorded during the botanical surveys (2,243 botanical observations were made). However, the comparative study shows that in the Craux de Saint-Michel-l\u2019Observatoire and Mane, more than 50% of the lawns have disappeared since 1948, gradually replaced by forest formations. Today, only around 200 hectares remain. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\nTo preserve these habitats, the Park works alongside local livestock farmers to maintain active pastoralism and undertake ecological restoration actions.
