Géosel aims to conduct its business in a safe and responsible manner, and to contribute to the flawless operations of oil logistics by offering an economical, safe and environmental-friendly solution for the storage and transportation of petroleum products.

Géosel is inspired by the ten principles of the United Nations Global Compact.

Géosel takes into account the expectations of its various stakeholders (customers, shareholders, employees, economic partners, regulatory authorities, local authorities and local residents) in carrying out its activities.

The company takes concrete action to limit its ecological footprint and is committed to sustainable development.

In terms of safety, Géosel applies rigorous standards to guarantee the safety of its facilities, employees and surrounding communities. Finally, Géosel is actively involved in local life, maintaining long-lasting relationships with its stakeholders and supporting a number of local initiatives.

OUR QHSE COMMITMENTS

Our QHSE (Quality, Health, Safety, Environment) policy has been adopted at the highest level by management, and is subject to a continuous improvement process. In order to achieve its objectives, Géosel implements a strategy based largely on prevention, the main thrusts of which are:

Health, safety and security

Protection of thehealth of employees and contractors, as well as the safety of installations, are taken into account right from the design stage, throughout the works and during operations. A maintenance and integrity plan covers all Géosel facilities, in particular the hydrocarbon and brine pipeline network and underground storage caverns. A risk assessment is also integrated into the process of managing modifications to facilities. Oursite in Manosque is operated and monitored 7 days a week, 24 hours a day.

It should be highlighted that the underground storage system has the advantage of limiting the risks of malicious acts, fire and explosion.

Quality control

In line with Géosel Quality Assurance Plan, he network of transport pipelines and the hydrocarbon and brine pipelines inside the Manosque storage site are monitored during operation and undergo technical controls as part of inspection and monitoring plans. The quality of products entrusted to us is checked as soon as they are received (batch analyses). A quality control plan that?enables us to monitor the quality of stored products.

Géosel is ISO 9001 certified for its underground storage of liquid hydrocarbons, its network of transport pipelines and stations, and its diversification projects.

Emergency plans are regularly reviewed and tested. They are activated in the event of an accidental event occurring at our storage facilities (Internal Operations Plan) or transport facilities (Surveillance and Intervention Plans). These plans are reviewed periodically and regularly tested during exercises conducted in collaboration with all stakeholders, such as government departments (prefecture, DREAL, emergency services), local authorities (town halls), etc.

Geosel believes that the continuous training of its employees is the key to improving health, safety, security, environmental protection, quality and the prevention of major accident risks. We support them in maintaining and developing their skills to confirm their operational expertise.

RESPECTING THE ENVIRONMENT

Our approach

Our preventive approach aims to avoid pollution and to reduce the environmental impact of our activities. In that domain, key actions are :

Respecting and protecting biodiversity and ecosystems: Géosel has contributed to the creation of habitats for protected species of chiropterans at the Château de Pélicier in the Parc du Luberon.
Monitoring and reducing our emissions, such as Organic Volatile Compounds (VOCs), and waste. The tanks at our pumping stations, for example, arefitted with floating roofs to reduce VOC emissions.

Our sites

Géosel’s sites have markedly different characteristics.
The Manosque site, located in the heart of the Luberon Regional Nature Park, is an example of the successful coexistence of a sensitive natural environment and an industrial activity. Géosel’s facilities are intimately integrated into a high-quality environment. From the outset, preserving and enhancing this sensitive natural heritage has been a priority for Géosel.

For a long time, Géosel has cooperated with local environmental partners to develop initiatives such as :

A partnership agreement signed with the Parc Naturel Régional du Luberon to integrate environmental imperatives into our monitoring, maintenance, inspection and repair operations on transport facilities and pipelines within the park.
A 20-year forest management plan (2015 – 2035) has been drawn up with the ONF. Its purpose: to maintain the wooded state in order to protect the soil and forest species.
The renewal of Gésoel commitment to PEFC (Promoting Sustainable Forest Management) after passing a certification audit. This membership (PEFC/10-21-19/392) is based on our commitment to comply with the “national specifications for forest owners”.
In Fos-sur-Mer, Geosel’s infrastructure is located in the historic cradle of nineteenth-century Provencal industry. The brine (a mixture of water and salt) contained in the Lavalduc and Engrenier basins has a very high salt concentration (equivalent to eight times that of the Mediterranean Sea on average). Geosel contributes locally to various environmental protection and pollution prevention committees, including the Natura 2000 committee for the ponds, the SPPPI Paca and Piicto.

Our certification

Géosel is ISO 14001 certified. This certification is an international standard defining the requirements for an environmental management system. To prevent pollution and reduce the impact of our activities, we strictly control our discharges into the air, ground, subsoil and water. Our waste management is rigorously optimized. Our teams are also trained to deal with any accidental environmental situation.

Emissions of volatile organic compounds from the Manosque site have been reduced by over 40% since 2020.

PARTICIPATING IN OUR REGION’S ENERGY TRANSITION

Géosel intends to play its part in meeting the major challenge faced by Fos-sur-Mer region and France as a whole: decarbonization of the country’s second-largest CO2 emitting region after Dunkirk area

Géosel’s position at the heart of the region’s energy system gives us a responsibility and a capacity to meet this challenge: we can accelerate the decarbonization process while enhancing the region’s attractiveness and competitiveness, in close coordination with the public authorities steering the process, and with an economic environment that is particularly mobilized to achieve this ambition.

In this context, a first project, HyVence, was examined in 2024. Using solar energy captured by a photovoltaic farm that would have been installed on the Lavalduc and Engrenier industrial brine ponds, HyVence would have been used to produce renewable, low-carbon hydrogen.

Géosel is conducting a wide-range review of the future of its storage, transport and distribution infrastructures, with a view to their use or conversion to renewable energies, in order to make an active contribution to the energy transition of the region in which it operates.

ANCHORING THE COMPANY IN LOCAL LIFE

The existence of Géosel accounts for over 100 permanent jobs.

Géosel is committed to creating and maintaining a regular, open dialogue with local communities, stakeholders and local associations, both in Manosque and in the Fos-Berre area.

For instance, as far as cultural associations are concerned, we support the “Rencontres Musicales de Haute Provence” music festival in Forcalquier and the “Correspondances Manosque La Poste” literary festival in Manosque, and take part to the Camargue Festival sponsorship. In recent years, we have also supported other local associations, including the Isabelle Association for the education of children.

As part of our support for biodiversity, we have signed a three-year sponsorship agreement with the Luberon Regional Natural Park.

A grazing agreement has also been signed with a local shepherd for the upkeep of wooded areas, as part of an eco-responsible approach.

ACTING IN FAVOR OF OUR EMPLOYEES

Géosel is committed to training its employees to improve health and safety in the workplace, and to helping them develop their skills and operational expertise through training and career development opportunities. In 2024, each Géosel employee attended an average of 5 training courses on a variety of topics ranging from HSE to business techniques.

Committed to training and skills transfer, Géosel regularly welcomes young people for internships or work-study contracts.
